Managing and Coaching

Adult Slowpitch Softball

by Dan Hughes

About Dan

I played Little League baseball (outfield) and Pony League baseball (third base) when I was a kid.  After that I was out of organized sports until my cousin moved to town and talked me into playing adult slowpitch softball.  That was in 1981, and I haven't stopped playing.

I've played every position on the field, but pitching is my true love.  In these past three decades I've played on and/or managed men's teams, co-rec teams, and senior teams.

To support my softball habit, I had to work a day job.  I finally retired in 2007 after 26 years as a college broadcast instructor and general manager of a college radio station.

I'm a Purdue grad with a degree in Broadcasting.  I also hold a master's degree in technology, and an FCC First Class Radiotelephone Operator's License (well, held, since broadcast licenses are now obsolete).

I'm also:

On the writing side, I've been published in several newspapers and magazines, covering everything from sports to real estate sales techniques to treasure hunting to radio history to collecting fishing lures, matchbook covers, and a ton of other stuff.  For 26 years I wrote and hosted a high school quiz bowl TV show.  I figured I wrote over 40,000 questions over the years for that show.

Besides writing MANAGING AND COACHING ADULT SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL, I've written manuals on being a radio DJ, using metal detectors to find treasure, setting up a web site for your old high school graduating class, and purchasing web space (and your own URL) to set up your own ad-free web site at minimal cost.  (All at Dan Hughes Books)

I do free biweekly podcasts on softball and treasure hunting, and a weekly old-time radio show.  And I have a pretty spiffy personal website.

So why can't I keep any friends?

Oops, sorry, wrong forum.
